An Amazon's Adopted Kid

October/November 2004

Tyler, Kaleigh and I had the distinct opportunity to have a spare "brother"/"son" in our family for about a month this year.  It all started when, while joking around with Justin (a friend of Tyler's) and his Dad, I said, "You know Justin, if you ever need a family to adopt you, make sure you call us first".  About a week later, Justin's Dad called and said, "I know you were just joking but could Justin stay with you for a while?"  Well, anyone that knows me knows I said suuuuuuurrrrrrreeeeee.  Heck, I didn't even ask how long or anything.  I have to admit, as soon as I hung up the phone, I heard voices in my head sounding alot like a line from the movie Tommy Boy, "What'd you doooooo?!"

The story was that Justin's Dad and Stepmom had received orders (they are air force) to move back east.  Justin's Dad was hoping to leave Justin with us while they drove back east and got settled.  Justin could fly back later.  That way he wouldn't have to take so much time off from school.

Justin was an awesome house guest.  He has a great sense of humor and was very polite.  He worked his butt off for us, too.  He even braved the poison oak up in Bangor to help fix about a million miles of fence.  It was a great experience for us all.  We sure miss Weiner Two.

Justin is a born cowboy.  He liked being out in the pasture with the livestock and spent quite a bit of time gone on the quad.  The king of that particular pasture is Dad's Brangus bull #530 (seen here on the left).  Justin and Kaleigh became adopted parents to an orphaned calf that they named Candy.

Here are Weiner One and Weiner Two at the airport.

See what happens when you try to leave Weiner One out of a picture?  He sneaks in anyhow!  I finally got the picture of Kaleigh and Justin after chasing Tyler around and smacking him with my wallet a couple times.

We let Tyler in this one.

You can't see it but I'm bawling like a baby here.  I couldn't believe how hard it was to see Justin leave.

Miss you friend!!

Go Home!!
