I had another opportunity to spend some time with Jeff Schumann on his incredible boat for a weekend of fishing. This time we went to Odell Lake near Crescent Oregon in the Oregon Cascades to fish for Kokanee and Lake (Mackinaw) Trout. The elevation at Odell Lake is 4,787 feet. The lake is 287' deep and approximately 6 miles long and 1 1/2 miles wide.
I'd never had the opportunity to fish for Mackinaw and had no idea what I was in for. The state record was caught in Odell Lake in 1984. It weighed 40 lbs. 8 oz.

My first Mackinaw. Watching this amazing
20 lb fish come up in that
crystal clear water was absolutely breathtaking!!!

Jeff asked me if I wanted to keep this incredible fish. I said "no" and he said "good". It just seemed to me that something that amazing should have an opportunity to grow some more. We took our pics with him and Jeff turned him loose.
I can't express how grateful I am to Jeff for the opportunities he's offered me in the past few months. There's just no way on earth I would have ever been able to fish like this without his generous donation of his time and expertise.
